Magnolia Grove Residents Celebrate the Holiday Season at the Floyd Street Christmas Tree Lighting

Nearly 50 Magnolia Grove residents braved a cold and brisk windy night to celebrate the coming holiday season. The event took place on Wednesday, December 2nd at the dead end of the 3900 block of Floyd Street (access via Leverkuhn). Residents shared holiday treats and drinks, including hot wassail. At 7:00 PM, the group counted down from 10 to light a 12 foot Christmas Tree. The event was the idea of multiple residents living in the 3900 block and is hoped to be an annual event. "The idea was a simple one," says the tree owner Bruce Coy. "We wanted to have an event where Magnolia Grove residents could come together to meet each other and share the kick-off to the holiday season." Bruce Coy, who is an interior holiday decorator, donated the 12' tree and its decorations to the event. Residents were also invited to bring an ornament to place on the tree, which many did. "We welcome Magnolia Grove residents to visit the tree throughout the holiday season, place ornaments on the tree if they wish, and share with their family and friends," says Bruce. The tree will be lit every night until January 6, 2010 (epiphany) from dusk until 1:00 AM.
